Introduction to Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

Course Description

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) has been recognized as a critical factor in students' success in school and beyond. SEL involves five essential components including: self-awareness, self-management, responsible decision-making, social awareness, and relationship skills. Through readings, videos, personal reflection, and online forum questions, participants will explore each of these components and learn how SEL and academics go hand-in-hand. Participants will leave the course with resources and strategies designed to support the social and emotional learning needs of students.

Global Goals of the Course

  1. Comprehend the five competencies of Social and Emotional Learning (SEL).
  2. Investigate the rationale for SEL and the benefits of SEL.
  3. Explore teaching strategies and activities to support the social and emotional learning needs of students.
  4. Examine family and community resources available to support the SEL initiative.

I would have prefered that the instructors contact information was available on the syllabus, but overall the course was informative and gives you man strategies that you can implement in the classroom.
