Certificate Renewal for Georgia Teachers

Pre-Service Certificate

Validity

Five years

Renewal

May be extended at the request of the educator preparation provider

Upgrade

Individuals who complete a GaPSC-accepted educator preparation program in the state of Georgia or individuals who complete a state-approved out-of-state program and fulfill field and clinical experiences in Georgia must satisfy the following requirements:
• A passing score on the appropriate GACE content assessment. These scores are transmitted electronically to the GaPsc
• A passing score on the Georgia Educator Ethics Assessment
• Pass the GaPSC-approved content pedagogy assessment
• Completion of a course in identifying and educating exceptional children with a grade of B or better

Induction Certificate

Validity

Five years

Renewal

Non-renewable, except when individuals who previously held a five-year Induction certificate and earned less than three years of successful educator experience within the five years may apply for another 5-year Induction certificate, subject to the current requirements

Conversion to Professional Certificate

Three years of successful educator experience. An individual may convert prior to the end of validity of the 5-year Induction certificate

Professional Certificate

Renewal

• Complete an individualized Professional Learning Plan or Professional Learning Goal coordinated with supervisor and employing LUA
• Employer must request renewal

Upgrade to Advanced Professional

Requirements for the Advanced Professional Certificate include:
• At least 10 years of acceptable educator experience, at least 3 of which must have been earned on a Georgia certificate within the last five years
• Meet Georgia's Standards of Conduct
• One of the following
• Advanced degree in a teaching field held by the educator beyond the initial preparation program
• Certificate in curriculum & Instruction Technology
• NBPTS certification

Upgrade to Lead Professional

Requirements for the Lead Professional Certificate include:
• A valid Advanced Professional Certificate or at least 5 years of acceptable educator experience
• One of the following:
• Teacher Leadership certification
• Advanced degree in a teaching field beyond the initial preparation program and a Teacher Leader, Coaching, or Teacher Support & Coaching endorsement
• Certificate in Curriculum & Instruction or Instructional Technology and a Teacher Leader, Coaching, or Teacher Support & Coaching endorsement
• NBPTS certification and a Teacher Leader, Coaching, or Teacher Support & Coaching endorsement
• Receive ratings of satisfactory, proficient, or exemplary on the annual summative performance evaluation while holding a Georgia professional teaching certificate
• Passing score on the GACE Teacher Leadership assessment

Advanced & Lead Professional Certificates
