Professional Development

Per the Excellence in Education Act of 1985 Mississippi educators must defer to their local district Professional Development Committee (PDC) for their respective Individual Professional Development Plan (IDPD).

College credit must be earned from a regionally-accredited college or university and converted at the rate of 1 semester hour credit = 15 contact hours.

TCL offers online and site-based graduate credit for courses through regionally accredited university partners or non-credit PD courses

Professional Certification

(Teachers, Librarians and most core areas)

Initial Certification

Valid four years, renewal requires 30 total hours

Reactivation

24 hours plus annual

Career Certification

Renewal requires 15 hours annually until exempt

Administrator Certification

(Principal, Special Education Director, Career Education Director)

Initial Certification

Valid four years, renewal requires 120 total hours

Reactivation

24 hours plus annual

Career Certification

Must complete EdS degree in education administration or reading/literacy and complete 30 hours annually

(Superintendent)

Initial Certification

Valid four years, renewal requires 120 total hours

Reactivation

24 hours plus annual

Career Certification

30 hours annually until exempt
