Professional Development

Professional Learning Units (PLUs) are accrued for the purpose of demonstrating ongoing professional learning. The accumulation of these units is a requirement.

Local Education Agencies (LEAs) approve professional learning activities. Professional learning approval should be consistent with both the regulations and the LEA’s professional learning plan.

TCL offers online and site-based graduate credit for courses through regionally accredited university partners or non-credit PD courses

Initial Educator Certificate

Validity

Three years

Renewal

Beginning in 2020, applicants will submit professional learning units as outlined below:
2020 – 20 PLUs
2021 – 40 PLUs
2022 – 75 PLUs
2023 – 75 PLUs
2024 – 75 PLUs
2025 – 90 PLUs

Professional Educator Certificate

Validity

Five years

Renewal

Beginning in 2020, applicants will submit professional learning units as outlined below:
2020 - 15 PLUs
2021 - 30 PLUs
2022 - 45 PLUs
2023 - 60 PLUs
2024 – 75 PLUs
2025 - 75 PLUs
2026 - 80 PLUs
2027 - 85 PLUs

2030 – 100 PLUs

Advanced Educator Certificate

Seven Years

Renewal:
