Renewal Credits

Professional Development options for South Carolina Educators include:
• College credit – 1 semester hour = 20 credits

TCL offers online and site-based graduate credit for courses through regionally accredited university partners or non-credit PD courses

Initial License

Validity

Three years

Non-renewable Moving from an initial certificate to a professional certificate requires the completion of two (2) requirements:

• Pedagogical knowledge assessment (typically the Praxis II "Principles of Learning and Teaching" exam) corresponding with the educator's certification field.
• Successful completion of the ADEPT (or TAP ADEPT) summative evaluation process.

• Educators must earn a minimum of 120 renewal credits
• Educators working in a South Carolina public middle or high school setting must satisfy the Jason Flatt Act suicide awareness training requirements before their Professional certificate can be renewed
• ducators holding Professional certificate that expires in 2020 or beyond must earn the appropriate R2S endorsement to remain eligible for certification renewal
